Significance of Technology in Education

         Significance of Technology in Education

Technology plays a role in education in this modern time. First and foremost, technology has fueled many innovations that have had a tremendous influence on societies and economies across the globe. It has significantly changed the way people live, work and communicates. Technology also provides the opportunity to personalize learning and to engage students in deep, authentic learning that enables them to learn about what matters to them at their own pace and regardless of place or time. For examples students can go through their NCERT textbooks online.

One of the key roles technology can serve in K–12 education is to shift the focus from the system, school and content toward learning and the learner, building competencies and enabling the learner to create and share knowledge. Technology is recognized as playing an integral role in creating student-centered, personalized, authentic learning environments.

A growing body of evidence demonstrates that technology is an effective means for addressing educational needs, goals and requirements. Educators also have identified links between technology and intermediate goals that lead to high achievement, including improved student behavior, engagement and attendance; improved opportunities for educator professional development; increased efficiency in classroom administrative tasks; and improved communication among stakeholders, including parents, teachers, students and administrators. As with all educational interventions, results do vary, depending upon the specific technologies used, the match of technology to educational needs and goals, the effective implementation of that technology, and how achievement is defined and measured.

The purpose of using technology should be to meet already established educational goals, and must be accompanied by a teacher who is properly trained to integrate it into teaching and instruction, as well as strong school leadership that ensures effective deployment and implementation. Adequate technical support and the appropriate school infrastructure, including adequate access to computers and bandwidth, are also important conditions that will help ensure technology has a positive effect on student learning and achievement.

Innovative and routine uses of technology:

Enables students to research information, construct and creatively express their knowledge and collaborate and communicate with peers and experts worldwide. Like getting involved in science projects in school science fairs.

Enables innovative approaches to teaching and learning that improve the quality of students’ learning experiences while increasing student choice.

Enhances professional learning opportunities and experiences.

Increases the capacity of the education system to support improved student learning by realizing data, management and administrative efficiencies.

Improves data analyses, information sharing and communication within and beyond the school community.
